Welcoming Lauren Stallard, who will start full-time at Pfenning’s in October 2018.
Q: Why is organic important to you?
I see organic as an investment in my health, and in the future of planet Earth. It can be overwhelming living in a world that seems to be hurtling towards its own demise. I hear about oil spills, intolerable air quality, and endangered animals all the time. Choosing to eat organic is one way I feel like I can make an impact, and support the Earth’s regeneration. Organic agriculture can build soil quality (which can increase the soil’s capacity to sequester Carbon). Because organic agriculture does not allow the use of toxic chemicals it contributes to protecting water resources. And because I eat organic I know there are less of these chemicals in my body.
Q: Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to about working on an organic farm?
I’m looking forward to working on an organic farm because I know it will help me connect to my roots. My passion is in organic food, and accessibility to organic food, but I’ve strayed from that path a bit in recent years. I look forward to working at Pfenning’s because I know they are active in their community, and conduct business with integrity.
