WHY PFENNING'S

Always Organic

Certified Organic

Transparency and accountability are some of our most important values. Certification by an objective third party demonstrates our commitment to these values. The certifications we hold are an important way we can assure you that we are doing what we say. Our organic certification follows the Canadian Organic Standard, which is regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Pro-Cert oversees our operation and inspects our farms and facilities against the Standard. We submit documentation outlining our Organic Plan annually as updates are made, and mid-growing season we are inspected by a verification officer. Our organic certificate is available to view here.

THE PRINCIPLES OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE ARE:

HEALTH

We aim to grow the most nutritious food possible by nurturing the soil on our farms with compost and cover crops.

ECOLOGY

We work with nature as stewards of the land to support biodiversity to flourish in the soils and ecosystems throughout the farm. Healthy soil grows healthier plants, which are more resistant to pests and disease!

FAIRNESS

We work for justice in the food system by advocating for changes to the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) in support of the rights and dignity of the migrant farm workers that grow food in Canada. We also support food access by supporting organizations in the communities we serve.

CARE

Everything we do is done with consideration for the health and wellbeing of current and future generations.
