As you’ve probably heard, demand on food banks has dramatically increased across Ontario since the pandemic began. Our friends at Neighbour To Neighbour Centre in Hamilton can vouch for this. Home deliveries for people with mobility issues and/or serious health risks increased by 186% in 2020 over 2019! In that same time period, 30% of people accessing the food bank were new clients.
1200 households in Hamilton rely on N2N for emergency food each month.
N2N does amazing work tackling food insecurity in Hamilton, and improving the lives of their community with a variety of programs. Programs include the Hamilton Community Food Centre, tutoring for kids, emergency food programs, and family services. Empowerment and lasting change is what they live and breathe.
Your support is critical. This summer we are supporting N2N through their Golf FORE Your Neighbour initiative, and we hope that you do too! An in-person event is not possible this year, but you can help with a donation – details here. You can also share this call to action with your networks. Every little bit helps!
Emergency relief is not a long-term solution – in a perfect world with fair and sustainable food systems, there would not be a need for it. But while there is a need, we must do our part to help.
