Farm News

IMG_1297aLife on the farm is never dull, there is always something that needs to be done!  Compost and cover crops have been turned into the land, and most of the planting is complete for now.  We have green garlic, spinach and green onion ready for harvest already.  We have fantastic hard-working teams who all work together to get the work done.

IMG_1337aThings have been going very smoothly – our biggest challenges at the moment are the lack of rain, and the frost we experienced last weekend.  We have been irrigating in order to keep those plants happy – last night’s rainfall was certainly welcome!  Hopefully we will get some more of the rain that is in the forecast this week.

The frost was patchy, and didn’t affect all of our fields – some had visible damage, as you can see here with one of our broccoli fields that was planted first.  This will mean a late start on broccoli for us, with limited volume to start.  It’s disheartening when things like this happen that are beyond our control, but we are thankful that the damage was not widespread; other fields escaped unscathed!
